What is Myofunctionl Therapy
Myofunctional Therapy is a series of techniques used to retrain and strengthen muscle function of the face, lips and tongue.
What is the purpose of Myofunctional Therapy?
To open and maintain proper airway, learn how to breathe through your nose, eliminate oral habits and dysfunctions that influence improper development, and learn how to chew and swallow properly.
Who is this for?
Men, women and children of all ages have been helped. There is no specific age or gender requirement.
What types of conditions are treated?
There are many conditions for which Myofunctional Therapy techniques are used for, such as: TMJ discomfort, Sleep Apnea/Sleep Disordered Breathing, Tongue and Lip restrictions, mouth breathing, thumb/finger sucking, tongue thrust, improper swallowing and orthodontic relapse.
How long before any progress?
Everyone is different. Depending on compliance, progress can be seen in a matter of 2-3 weeks. The more disciplined you are, the more progress you will see.
How long are the sessions?
The initial assessment can take 45 minutes to 1 hour. Each session after that will be about 30 minutes. Some sessions may be done via Skype, some may need to be done in person.
What do you mean "this just may be the missing piece?"
If you’ve tried many other forms of treatments, surgeries and medications to treat the conditions mentioned, give Myofunctional Therapy a try. This is a non-invasive, natural way to improve on many conditions and with treatment compliance certain conditions can be eliminated. For example, with a tongue thrust, you can relearn where to place your tongue and the muscles can be retrained in order to eliminate the thrust of the tongue forward causing an open bite and improper swallowing.
